The Tour:  This adventure is centered in the heart of Umbria. We will explore the hill towns and small villages that make this part of Italy so unique. Umbria has all the charm of Tuscany without so many “tourists”. And, of course, we will sample the wines and the wonderful food from this region. A little time in the kitchen will give us an opportunity to learn how to prepare some typical Umbrian dishes and then a chance to sample what we have prepared.

Umbria presents some wines from grapes that you may be familiar with, such as Sangiovese, but they grow others perhaps less familiar. Their typical white grapes are Grechetto and Trebbiano, and an up and coming red is Sagratino di Montefalco.

Our stay for the week will be on the site of a 12th century castle. The Locanda del Gallo has been recently restored and has all of the modern amenities.

The castle was destroyed in 1397, but by 1600 another building was built on the castle site that is now the home of the Locanda. The property was restored in the late 1990's and now has all of the modern conveniences. A dip in the pool, a candlelight dinner, sipping a glass of wine on the terrace, or taking a stroll through the woods makes this an adyllic spot to spend a week.
